Working Winneba

Yesterday, we were able to attend the Homecoming address from Elder Tyler Kaelin.  He was Sean's 2nd companion in the field and has become a very good friend to Sean.  It was wonderful to hear the testimony of this great young man and have him give us a report on how our boy is doing.  We appreciate the guidance and friendship he gave Sean so far from home!

Hey Mom! 

 

Man, its so good to see you guys met Elder Kaelin! He has become one of my very good friends. Everyone is looking really good!

So the work right now is kind of slow. We learned this week that Winneba (which was once part of Cape Coast Mission) was kind of the area where they sent missionaries to die, basically. So a lot of people here don't take missionaries that seriously, especially the members. We will keep on trying though. We are working everyday to try and teach as much as possible.  We are planning a big service project, so we have that coming up.

 

Elder Bednar came to the mission for a YSA devotional. We were not able to go, but he said that the gospel is rolling forth here in West Africa.  It was very nice to hear that our work isn't going unnoticed.

 

Well Mom not much else to say about this week.  Continue to pray for us.

So, Sean sent this pic last week and wondered why I didn't include it.  He says this is pretty much how Ghana is.  Every corner of every house.  I hope this wasn't in his, because he and I will have to have a little talk about the egg shells and trash.  I get the bugs, but not the trash.  Boys!

Hey Mom, 

 

The work is amazing right now!  We are teaching two women that are pretty serious about learning, Sister Yvonne and Sister Hannah. Both of them are very nice and very interested about learning the gospel.  My new companion is Elder Dall.  He is really cool.  He came to Ghana with me.  We are doing very good. 

 

So, the only athletes from Ghana in the Olympics are the weightlifters. They have this show here called Ghana's Strongest that is really popular.  So besides weightlifting,  the Ghanaian people don't really watch the Olympics, but we've caught a glimpse of a couple of events here and there. 

 

Man, Hayden Bush is going, Jacey Gilchrist is going, and Kailee Sharp just got her papers finished. It so exciting!  It's insane how fast my mission is flying by!

 

Well Mom, the the work has started up again truly.  I am excited to get some conversions going. I love you guys sooo very much.

Dear Mom, 

My last week with Elder Maloba was very nice.  He is definitely ready to go home. So, we got transfer news.  I am staying in Winneba and my new companion is Elder Dall. He is from Washington DC and from my TC (the group he went to Ghana with.  They actually sat next to each other on the flight), so it will be awesome!

So, it's true that the work hasn't been great, but part of that is because Elder Maloba was pretty much done working.  Elder Dall and I will do more missionary work this transfer.

Elder Kaelin is going to call you when he gets home. His homecoming is on the 14th and he is excited to see you guys and meet you.

Changes on the horizon

Dear Mom, 

 

Elder Maloba goes home Monday.  He is super excited. I've loved Maloba, but I am somewhat looking forward to doing a little more serious work.  With transfers coming up one of two things will happen. 

 

1. I will get a new companion in my area like normal

or 

2. They will shut down my area and move me.  There are two areas of Winneba, Winneba 1 and Winneba 2. We are in Winneba 2. If they shut this area down, the Winneba 1 missionaries will take it over.

 

Personally, I want to stay here, but we will see what happens. As for the work, we have about 2-3 serious investigators. 

 

You asked about how we keep ourselves cool.  So, to cool ourselves we have rechargeable fans, but lately because it's so cool, we don't use them.  Cool means lows in the lower 70's and highs in the upper 70's -low 80's. 

So you think I should consider BYU - Idaho? Maybe.  A lot of guys from the mission are going there. I'll add that to my pool of possibilities.

 

 I Love you guys so very much. I'll send some pictures of something for your birthday.  I just wish I could give them to you in person!

Hi Mom!

I uploaded my album!  This week was really nice. We taught more than we usually do. Next transfer will be a lot busier because right now my companion just wants to wind down, which is fine.  This is his last transfer. I am doing good. The work is going well.  We are starting the lessons with a couple of people, so we are excited to have some new potential investigators.

Like I said, I uploaded a lot of pics to Facebook. They are just of my area, me, and my companion. I hope you like them. (I am putting them on their own blog post)  

 

How goes the college search? I am still thinking about my career. I will let you know what I think of, but I'm leaning towards Sports Medicine.  I also want to spend some time working with Christian in Texas.  It sounds like it's been a good experience for him!

I've heard about Pokemon Go even out here.  I am super excited for it when I get home. That's just small though!

A little over 10 months out!

Hi Mom! 

 

This week was pretty sweet.  We didn't teach a lot this week.  The Muslim community broke their month long fast, so everyone has been partying.  It's made it hard to get people to teach, but we are trying our hardest each day.  We are doing good.  I've gotten down to an even 230lbs, so I am getting healthier each day. 

 

It looks like you guys had a blast in Nauvoo and South Dakota. I have to admit, I wish I was there with you guys. Oh well, just a little over a year before I'm home. But who's counting? Haha!
 

We are working with a lot of less actives in this area.  It's made me realize that faith is the root of everything we believe in.  Faith will move mountains, but you have to actually work with it.

I Love you guys so much.  I'm glad you guys had so much fun together.
